Toughest Half Marathon in the West
Robbie Creek

About a month ago my husband finished one of the toughest half marathons in the west!! This was his first half marathon but wont be his last. This year the Robbie Creek registration sold out in just about 16 min. Registration opened online at about 12:oo noon. Just before this time I had the computer out with the web page up and ready to go because other people had told us that it sells out quick so you have to be ready if you want a spot in the race. The registration link finally appeared so I clicked on it as soon as it was available and the page kept giving me an error message, so at this point both me and my husband were panicking thinking that we would not get it. Luckily Ben's boss Ryan, who ran the race with Ben was able to get him self registered right away and he called Ben to ask if we had gotten in and we said NO. Ryan was able to get back in right away and register Ben for the race.

When Ben had decided that he wanted to run Robbie, both Ben and Ryan trained hard for about 4 months prior to the race. They ran long distances for a while, then when it came closer to the race they started running in the foot hills where the race would start.

When race day was finally here on April 17th they were ready, well so they thought!! Both Ben and Ryan finished the race but they said that it was nothing like they had trained for. It was much much harder than what they thought. Ben ran pretty good up hill but when the course started down hill this was when the race started giving him problems. He ran all five miles down hill with a cramp in his left calf. At this point he did not want to stop to rub it out he just wanted to keep going to finish. As the race is a total of 13.1 miles, uphill and down hill. Anyway they finished at about 2 hours and 29 min.

Right after the race Ben felt pretty good, he jumped in the creek at the end of the race to cool off while Ryan and his wife went off to go find some food and drinks. Once Ben had cooled off this is when things turned a little ugly!

Ben was suffering from heat exhaustion, he was puking all the water and Gatorade he had drank during the race. This was NOT fun for Ben. He was all ready really tired from the race and then puking on top of that wore him out really fast. He had absolutely NO energy for anything. After about four hours of puking every half hour, we decided that it was probably time to take him to the ER and get him some fluids and medication. Once we were able to get him to stop puking and fluids back in him he was good to go.

After all of that Ben says he is going to run Robbie again next year and he will be better prepared, he will train harder and hydrate himself weeks before the race!!

CRAZY SUMMER SCHEDULE!!

Well my first year in the Radiology program is OVER!! They have not kicked me out yet so I guess that is a good thing!! One would think that because it is summer time that I would have all the time in the world to relax and have a fun summer!! Well that's not true at all, in fact I will only see my husband on the weekends and I will only get to see him for about 20 hours a week. WOW that really sucks. Yeah I will basically be coming home to sleep and then start all over again in the morning. You see my schedule goes a little something like this... Wake up at about 6:30 a.m, shower, get ready for clinic than I am out the door by 7:15 a.m., clinic for 8 hours off by 4:00 p.m just in time to drive to work and make it there by 5:00 p.m., work until 9:30 p.m, home by 9:45 p.m and I am off to bed, then the day starts all over again!! I know you guys should all feel sorry for me!! But I think we have all experienced a crazy heck tech life at least once or twice. So for all of you that have experienced this I know how you feel, not EVER being able to spend time with the one you love. So for those wondering why I will not spend any time with you it is because I simply don't have the time, or I would rather spend it with my awesome husband Ben. Have I mentioned how awesome he is?? Well he is just great especially now since I am never home he has been doing all of the house chores and making sure things stay in order. I LOVE that guy!! Any way If I don't post anything for a long time you will understand I hope!! I hope everyone has a great summer!!

RACE FOR THE CURE!!

This past weekend I was able to join the race for the cure!! I signed up on a team with one of my friends from school as her mom had passed away from breast cancer about 20 yrs ago. She has a team every year to pay tribute to her mother and help others fight for a cure!! Our team name was TEE TOO, which was my friends mother's nick name. Her family made there own team t-shirts and it was a lot of fun. I hope we can make it a tradition that we go every year with each other. Here we are at the end of the race once we had finished.

I finished in about 30 min. which isn't bad but it is not great either for a 3.1 mile race. I plan on running Robbie one of these days with my husband as he ran it this year for the first time!! I have got a lot of training to do!!
